I hold the position of Professor of Production and Logistics at the University of Vienna. My research develops machine learning and optimization methods for complex decision-making problems in logistics and production, with an emphasis on real-world systems where algorithmic speed, reliability, and human judgment all matter.
My research group's work spans industrial applications in supply chains and the maritime industry to optimization for environmental protection. I am interested in how artificial intelligence can support better planning and decision making, and in particular how AI can automatically develop solutions for these critical problems.

I am the coordinator of the 4.6 million € CoRDS project. CoRDS is a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Doctoral Network focused on trustworthy, data-driven optimization at the intersection of machine learning and operations research, with applications across logistics, healthcare, transportation, and manufacturing.

We are developing deep reinforcement learning methods that learn to solve difficult optimization problems more effectively, with special attention to the challenge of finding feasible solutions.
